ISO 6164-1 ball valve is produced after the ISO 6164-1 (ISO250) and ISO 6164-2 (ISO400) standards. The ball valves are round in shape and have a size ranging from 1/2” (DN 13) to 3” (DN80). ISO 6164 ball valves are high pressure ball valves made for use as on and off flow valves mostly used in hydraulic applications. The working pressure ranges from 100 bar to 400 bar, depending on the size diameter of the ball valve. The ISO 6164 Ball Valve is made of stainless steel (2828 & 282A) and carbon steel (2128 & 212A) materials. The working temperature of the ball valve is available in ranges from -10⁰c to 100⁰c. It is also made in the design of a quarter-turn type ball valve. |

1. What are ISO 6164 Ball Valves?
ISO 6164 ball valves are high-pressure valves used in hydraulic systems. The working pressure of the valve is determined by the body size of the valve. Due to this, an increase in the body size of the valve leads to a decrease in the working pressure and vice versa. However, the total precise pressure the valve uses to function is subjected to the tube or pipe rating and the type of flange connected. The ISO 6164 ball valve has a working temperature between -10⁰c and 100⁰c, all based on the material combination of the whole ball valve.

2. What materials are the ISO 6164 Ball Valves made of?
The ISO 6164 ball valve is made from stainless steel and carbon steel. Stainless steel (SS316) is a mixture of alloys from chromium and iron. It has 10.5% chromium mixed with other alloys like nickel, manganese, carbon, silicon, copper, etc. the choice of alloy to be added is based on the project at hand. Stainless steel valves are very common and mostly used for ball valves due to these reasons:
|
Carbon Steel is steel containing carbon content ranging from 0.05% to 2.1%. Carbon steel is used in various industries mostly due to its toughness and strength. The material is used as a material for the body and disc of the carbon steel ball valve. Carbon steel valves are slightly cheaper than stainless steel, however, they are highly susceptible to corrosion and rust.
These steel (carbon and stainless) are generally available, however, for other combinations of materials, requests can be made for availability based on specifications. The table below shows the chemical combination for the ISO 6164 Ball Valve:
