STAUFF test coupling
Seals first, opens second. The ball is held on its seat by a spring, and the mating hose only pushes it off that seat after it has itself sealed. Disconnecting reverses the sequence — so the port is closed before the connection breaks: no oil lost, no dirt in.

⚠ Hoses and adaptors must match the series. Test 20 and Test 15 share the same connection standard (ISO 15171-2) but do not interchange — a series 20 adaptor does not go on a series 15 coupling. State the series on every PO line.

Pressure

Two figures that must be read together

ParameterValueNotes
Max working pressure630 bar / 9,137 psiStatic, in the sealed condition
Connection under pressure400 bar / 5,801 psiDynamic limit — this is the figure that governs on site
Type G & Type KWhichever is lowerThe fitting manufacturer's rating also applies — take the lower

The 400 bar limit is deliberately below the 630 bar. 630 bar is what the coupling holds while sealed; 400 bar is the limit for making or breaking a connection on a live system. If your system runs above 400 bar and you need a live reading, isolate with a needle valve or depressurise first.

ConditionAction
System ≤400 bar, live connection requiredProceed — the coupling is rated 630 bar
System >400 bar, live reading neededIsolate via a needle valve, or depressurise
Type G or Type K connectionsCross-reference the fitting maker's rating — use the lower limit

Ancillary components

PartFunction
SGV-JIC Type FMSwivel run tee — retrofits into an existing 37° JIC joint and adds a test point with no new port to drill
SAD-20 / SAD-15Test adaptor — connects test points to instruments
SMA / SMD-20 and -15Gauge adaptor — attaches a gauge directly to a test point

Ball check or piston valve is usually decided by the connection. Ball check covers most of the range — including all JIC, ORFS and the Test 20 bulkheads. Piston valve covers the SKK-20 and the SMK-15 family.

W3Steel, zinc/nickel platedStandardGeneral hydraulics; enclosed machinery
W4Stainless1.4305 / AISI 303Washdown; light corrosion
W5Stainless1.4571 / AISI 316TiMarine, offshore, chemical service
CodeSealTemperature rangeApplication
BNBR (Buna-N)−20…+100 °CStandard mineral hydraulic oil
VFKM (Viton)−20…+200 °CHot oil; aggressive fluids
EEPDM−40…+150 °CBrake fluid — named specifically by STAUFF

⚠ The internal seals are FKM even on the standard NBR build — STAUFF states this on its own datasheet. So a coupling coded B still contains FKM internal components. The ball is stainless on every version including W3 bodies, and the vibration safety O-ring is NBR on every build including the Viton ones.

Construction

Six parts inside — and how the body is closed

1. Internal seals

FKM — even on the standard NBR build.

2. Ball

Stainless on every version, including the W3 steel bodies.

3. Vibration safety O-ring

NBR — stops the protective cap self-loosening under machine vibration.

4. Spring

Holds the ball on its seat — this is what makes the port self-closing.

5. Male stud seal

Seals the coupling into its circuit port.

6. Port connection

Closed with a threaded nipple, not crimped.

The body is closed with a threaded nipple in an automated process — it is not crimped shut after the valve components and seals go in. The protective cap is self-locking and chained to the body; hexagonal steel or plastic variants are available on the SMK-20 range, and colour marking rings across both Test 20 and Test 15, in steel and stainless.

Function

Three jobs from one point

FunctionWhat connectsThe advantage
Pressure monitoringGauge, or a test hose via an adaptorOne portable instrument serves many points
VentingHose to a container, or opened directlyA release point that was designed — not a cracked fitting
Fluid samplingSampling hose / bottle adaptorA sample representative of the system, on a live flowing line

On oil sampling: a sample drawn from a capped test point on a live, flowing line is representative of the system. A sample taken by cracking a joint into a jar tells you mostly about the joint — which is why contamination results so often mislead.

Retrofit

Adding test points to a machine already built

There is a spare port

A male threaded stud coupling screws straight in — done.

There is no spare port

The SGV-JIC Type FM swivel run tee goes into an existing 37° JIC joint and adds a test point without moving anything.

It has to be on a panel

An SSK-20 or SSK-15 bulkhead passes through the panel plate.

STAUFF's own framing: test couplings are either designed in from the start, or added later when retrofitting or upgrading. Mark the points with colour rings now and the next technician does not have to guess which line is which.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I really connect a gauge while the system is running?

Yes, up to 400 bar / 5,801 psi. That is the catalogue limit for making or breaking a connection on a live system, and it is lower than the coupling's 630 bar working pressure on purpose.

Will it leak when I take the gauge off?

No. The ball is held on its seat by a spring, and the mating hose or adaptor only pushes it off that seat after it has itself sealed. Disconnecting reverses the sequence, so the port is closed before the connection breaks.

Do I need tools to connect?

No. The connection is hand-made, without tools, which is the point of a designed test port.

What is the difference between the Test 20 and Test 15 series?

The two sizes in the range, each with its own family of couplings, bulkheads and adaptors: SMK-20, SKK-20, SSK-20, SAD-20, SMA-20, SMD-20 against SMK-15, SSK-15, SAD-15, SMA-15, SMD-15. What matters in practice is that hoses and adaptors have to match the series.

Ball check or piston valve?

Ball check covers most of the range and is the usual choice — including all JIC and ORFS connections and the Test 20 bulkheads. Piston valve covers the SKK-20 and the SMK-15 family. In practice the decision is made for you by which connection you need.

Which connection do I need at the circuit end?

Whatever is already there. A male threaded stud into a spare port, a straight 24° fitting (Type G), a 24° taper with O-ring / DKO (Type K), a 37° JIC, an ORFS face seal, or a bulkhead through a panel.

Steel or stainless?

W3 steel with zinc/nickel plating is the standard, right for enclosed machinery. For corrosion duty: W4 (1.4305 / AISI 303) for washdown and light exposure, and W5 (1.4571 / AISI 316Ti) for marine, offshore and chemical service.

Which seal for my fluid?

B, NBR (−20…+100 °C) for ordinary mineral hydraulic oil. V, FKM (Viton) (−20…+200 °C) for hot oil and more aggressive fluids. E, EPDM (−40…+150 °C), which STAUFF names specifically for brake fluid.

Are the internal seals the same material as the ordered seal type?

No, and this is worth knowing. STAUFF states on its own datasheet that the internal seal types are made of FKM even on the standard NBR build.

What stops the cap vibrating off?

A vibration safety O-ring, in NBR, fitted specifically to prevent the protective cap self-loosening under machine vibration. The cap is also self-locking and chained to the body.

Can I take an oil sample through one?

Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to fit them. A sample drawn from a capped test point on a live, flowing line is representative of the system; a sample taken by cracking a joint into a jar tells you mostly about the joint.

Can I add test points to a machine that is already built?

Yes. Where there is a spare port, a male threaded stud coupling screws straight in. Where there is not, the SGV-JIC Type FM swivel run tee goes into an existing 37° JIC joint and adds a test point — no new port to drill and tap.

Are they in stock for Indonesia?
