Stainless spring washer — the grip

The ring of teeth that bites the tube OD. Stainless rather than plated steel is what stops it rusting into the tube on a humid line.

NBR O-ring — the seal

NBR is good with air, water and mineral oil. If your medium is anything else, tell us before you order.

POM — collar and guide

The positioning seat is the collar you press to release; the rubber interface keeps the tube square in the port.

Not of the body. It is the number to check against a hot compressor discharge or an outdoor line in a cold store.

ΦD is the tube OD the port accepts. ΦP is the outside diameter of the collar — what decides whether two fittings will sit side by side on a manifold. All dimensions in millimetres and weights in grams, as printed in the AF Hydro catalogue.


Procedure

Fitting the tube — and getting it out again

1 — cut square

Use a tube cutter. A slanted or crushed end is the most common cause of a leaking joint — the O-ring seals on the tube OD, so it needs a clean, round, undamaged surface.

2 — push until it stops

There is a shoulder inside the port. If the tube is short of it, the grip washer is holding only the very end of the tube.

3 — pull back to check

The tube should not move. One second that catches a short insertion before the line is pressurised.

4 — release

Depressurise first, then press the collar in and hold it while you pull the tube out. Pulling without pressing the collar makes the washer bite harder, not release.

⚠ Depressurise before releasing

A tube released under pressure whips. On a compressed air line that is an injury, not a nuisance.

No tape, no sealant

There is no thread here. The seal is the O-ring against the tube OD — anything smeared on that surface makes it worse, not better.

Reuse the fitting, inspect the tube

The fitting is designed to be released and remade. The tube is not — the grip washer marks the outside surface, so cut back past the marks before re-inserting.

Support the run

A push-in fitting holds the tube, but it is not a clamp. A long unsupported run loads the port — use tube clamps on anything that vibrates.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes are available?

4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 mm tube OD. The size is the outside diameter of the tube — not a thread and not a bore. The reducing shapes combine two sizes in one part; the standard part list carries 6×4, 8×6 and 10×8.

What pressure will they hold?

The catalogue gives a working pressure range of 0–10 kgf/cm², which is 0–1.0 MPa, and a negative pressure figure of 750 mmHg (10 Torr) for vacuum service. Its main technical parameter table also lists a high pressure figure of 1.6 MPa. Both are shown here as printed — send us your line pressure and we will confirm which applies.

What tube do they take?

Nylon flexible tube or PU tube, to the nominal OD of the fitting. The tube has to be round, cut square and undamaged on the outside surface — that is where the O-ring seals. Not for metal tube and not for hose.

How do I get the tube out again?

Depressurise the line first. Then press the collar in and hold it while you pull the tube out. Pulling without pressing the collar makes the stainless grip washer bite harder rather than release — the same mechanism that holds the joint under pressure.

Can I reuse the fitting?

Yes — the fitting is designed to be released and remade. The tube is the part to watch: the grip washer leaves a ring of marks in the outside surface, and that section will not seal reliably a second time. Cut back past the marks before you push it in again.

What temperature can they run at?

−20 to 70 °C. That limit belongs to the NBR seals and the plastic components rather than to the body — so it is the number to check against a hot compressor discharge or an outdoor line in a cold store.

What are they made of?

Eight components. Body and positioning ring aluminium alloy, rubber interface and positioning seat POM, spring washer stainless steel, O-ring and rubber pad NBR. The catalogue features page describes the body as aluminium alloy while the part numbers carry a POM code; both are shown as printed, and we confirm on the quotation.

Why is my push-in joint leaking?

Almost always the tube end. The O-ring seals on the outside surface of the tube, so a cut that is slanted, crushed by pliers or scored will leak no matter how far in it goes. Cut it square with a tube cutter, push it in until it stops, pull back to check. Do not add tape or sealant — there is no thread here.

Do you have a threaded version — push-in to BSP?

The range on this page is tube-to-tube only — all eight shapes take tube on every port. If you need a push-in port on a threaded boss, tell us the thread and the tube size and we will quote it separately rather than substitute something that looks close.

Is the union cross worth it over two tees?

Usually, yes. Two tees need a short length of tube between them — one more joint to leak and roughly twice the space. The union cross, PZ4 to PZ12, puts four equal ports on one body.

Where do these sit against your other fittings?
