Overview

What a split flange is, and when you need one

A joint that breaks without rotating the pipe

The split flange is one of the SAE flange types. A pair of halves clamps around a flange adaptor — a head with an O-ring groove on one side or a flat face on the other — and four bolts pull it tight. Because the flange is split, the joint can be opened for service or component replacement without rotating or cutting the pipe run. Used in hydraulic systems under high pressure, vibration and shock.

Cut or uncut?

  • Uncut — a one-piece full ring; fitted by sliding it on from the pipe end before the adaptor is welded/fitted.
  • Cut — split into two halves; it can be fitted and removed mid-run without opening the end — the service advantage.
  • Both are available in Code 61 (3000 PSI) and Code 62 (6000 PSI).
Code 61 · 3000 PSIthe standard for most hydraulic work
Code 62 · 6000 PSImore robust construction for high-pressure systems

Bolt pattern by size — Code 61 vs Code 62

Split flanges use the same SAE J518 bolt pattern as the SAE flange at the same size and code — measure the long-side bolt centres to identify both. All figures as printed in the catalogues.

Bolt torques match the SAE flange at the same size & code — Code 61: M8/32 Nm (1/2″) up to M16/295 Nm (3″+); Code 62: M8/32 up to M30/650 Nm (3″). Full tables on the SAE flanges page. Lightly torque every screw first, then work up across the pattern, not around it — to avoid breaking a clamp.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a split flange?

Two halves that clamp around a flange adaptor, so the joint can be broken without rotating the pipework — quick service without cutting the line. To SAE J518 / ISO 6162, in 3000 PSI (Code 61) and 6000 PSI (Code 62) designs.

What is the difference between cut and uncut?

Uncut is a one-piece full ring — fitted by sliding it on from the pipe end. Cut splits into two halves — it can be fitted and removed mid-run without opening the end; that is the service advantage.

When do I use a split flange instead of a standard SAE flange?

When the connection has to be broken regularly for service or component replacement. The split flange clamps a flange adaptor (an O-ring side or flat side head), so the line can be broken without rotating or cutting the pipe.

Are Code 61 and Code 62 interchangeable?

No. The bolt-hole spacing differs at every size — at 1/2″ 38.10 mm (Code 61) vs 40.49 mm (Code 62) — widening with size. Measure the long-side bolt centres to identify the installed code.

What are the bolt torques?

The same as the SAE flange at the same size & code — e.g. 2″ Code 61 M12 at 130 Nm, 2″ Code 62 M20 at 550 Nm. Lightly torque every screw first, then work up across the pattern — not around it — to avoid breaking a clamp. Full tables on the SAE flanges page.

What materials are split flanges made from?

Carbon steel (ST52.3/S355) as the default, or SS316 for corrosive environments. Bolts grade 8.8 yellow zinc for carbon steel; SS304/SS316 for stainless.

Are they in stock for Indonesia?

Yes — cut and uncut in both codes, with matching flange adaptors, bolts and O-rings, in our regional warehouses in Singapore and Malaysia. Goods leave the warehouse within 24 hours of your PO, with the delivery schedule confirmed in the quotation.

How do I order?
